1852, the great British tragedian Junius Brutus Booth was touring Northern California with a small troupe that included his sons, 21-year-old Junius Brutus Booth, Jr. and 19-year-old Edwin Booth. Although scheduled to perform in San Francisco and Sacramento, Booth’s tour was cut short when torrential rains closed the theaters. Junius immediately left California for his home in Baltimore.
